LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Swedish car major Volvo Car Corp today launched
its two flagship models -- the S80 sedan and XC90 sports utility vehicle -- in
India.
The S80 sedan is priced between 3.8 mln and 4.4 mln Indian rupees, while the
XC90 is priced at 4.5-5.2 mln rupees.
Volvo Car India managing director Paul de Voijs said: "India seems to have
immense potential for luxury cars in the Asia Pacific region and we are sure our
brand will be well accepted by the Indian consumer."
VCI further said it will import the two cars as completely built units
(CBUs) from its Swedish plant and sell them initially through three dealerships,
adding that it opened its first Indian office at Gurgaon on Sept 2.
