STOCKHOLM--Autoliv (ALV), the Swedish maker of airbags and
safety belts, and Volvo Car Corp. will form a new joint-venture
company to develop next-generation autonomous driving software, the
companies said Tuesday.
The yet-to-be-named company will be headquartered in Gothenburg
and is expected to start operations in early 2017, the firms
said.
Initially employing 200 workers taken from both companies, the
new firm will have over 600 employees in the medium term,
developing Automated Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
for use in Volvos and to be sold exclusively by Autoliv to all car
makers.
Volvo Car Corp. is owned by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group
Co. and is not affiliated with truck maker Volvo AB.
