NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - VF Corp. late Tuesday said first-quarter
earnings rose to $149 million, or $1.33 a share, from $138.3 million, or $1.20 a
share a year earlier.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of $1.29 a share.
Revenue rose 10% to $1.85 billion from $1.67 billion a year earlier, beating
the $1.84 billion Wall Street mean view.
The company attributed the strength to 20% growth in VF's international and
retail businesses, and backed its 2008 guidance.
The Greensboro, N.C.-based maker of branded jeans such as Wrangler, Lee and
7 For All Mankind, said it still sees earnings rising 10% on sales growth of 9%
in 2008.
Shares of VF closed the regular session at $78.29, down .3%.
