LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Universe Group Plc. said it slipped into a
first-half loss from a profit last year, as profitability was hit by investment
in future growth, but said it sees a better performance in the second half.
The retail and loyalty systems company said international growth has been
slower than expected, but was progressing. It added that after a slow start, the
international division business will grow as contracts come online.
The company reported a pretax loss of 618,000 pounds for the six months to
end-June against a profit of 447,000 pounds a year ago. Revenues rose 26 percent
to 7.86 million pounds.
The company said an improved performance in the second quarter compared to
the first quarter was in line with its expectations.
