LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Ultra Electronics Holdings Plc. said its
Greenford and Cambridge-based control units have won a further contract worth
about $21 million from U.S.-based Pratt & Whitney to supply lift fan ice
protection equipment (LFIPS) for the F-35 joint strike fighter (JFS).
Ultra will undertake the complete development of the LFIPS electronic
controller, which will provide electro-thermal ice protection to the JSF lift
fan.
Ultra added it expects the new development contract to lead to further
contracts that will cover the production phases of the programme.
The contract also covers a further development of the F-135 Engine Ice
Protection System (EIPS) controller announced in 2006, the company said.
