Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) said Monday that the completion of the expansion of its Detroit refinery will be slight delayed from the previous mid-2012 deadline.

As of Monday, Tesoro Corp.'s (TSO) hydrocracker at its Martinez, Calif., refinery is running at planned rates, the company said.

Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Monday morning that it had restarted a crude unit at its St. Charles refinery in Norco, La.

Plans are being made to restart its coker and vacuum unit, spokesman Bill Day said in an email. Those units were shut by a fire on June 9. The coker will be operated at 50% when its restarted because of economic conditions. Valero has reduced coker rates at other refineries.

Valero's Ardmore, Oklahoma, refinery remains shuttered following a July 4 fire at a hydrotreater unit, the co. said on Aug. 3.

Valero's Benicia, Calif. plant is beginning a shutdown of the 36,000 bpd hydrocracker for a planned repair. "We expect this to be a brief outage with the unit restarted by the beginning of next week," company spokesman Bill Day said Monday.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) reported that a hydrocracker at its Beaumont, Texas refinery rest shut down after an upset on July 30, according to environmental regulators.

Tesoro Corp. (TSO) said July 30 its hydrocracking unit at its Golden Eagle refinery in Martinez, Calif. is restarting and should return to service in less than a week.

The unplanned turnaround hasn't been very expensive company executives said Thursday morning during an second quarter earnings calls with analyst.

Flint Hills Resources will shut several units at its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery for unplanned work. The naptha hydrotreater, a hydrocracker and cyclic catalytic reformer will be shut as early as July 29; the work may also necessitate the shutdown a gas oil hydrotreater.

Valero also said July 28 that it has delayed 42 days of turnaround maintenance its Delaware City, Delaware, refinery FCCU until 2010 from September of 2009, and reiterated its intention to perform plantwide maintenance in September at its refinery in Three Rivers, Texas.

Frontier Oil Corp. (FTO) will in October start 30-40 days of scheduled turnaround maintenance at an FCCU and hydrotreater unit at its El Dorado, Kansas, refinery. The work will be concluded in November, the co. said on July 27.

Total Petrochemicals USA (TOT) July 26 began 10 days of planned maintenance at a Sulfur Recovery Unit at its Port Arthur, Texas, refinery.

And ExxonMobil (XOM) said a unit at its Torrance, Calif., refinery could be restarted as early as July 26; the unit wasn't identified, but a hydrogen unit, a sulfur recovery unit and a coker unit in July. The restart process was expected to conclude by August 1.

Citgo on July 20 shut the East Plant FCCU at its Corpus Christi, Texas refinery owning to the July 19 East Plant alkylation unit fire, according to a report to Texas state environmental regulators.

Pasadena Refining's crude unit at its Pasadena, Texas, refinery was back to normal operations July 20 following a lightning strike Saturday that disabled power to an emergency generator.

And Valero (VLO) July 20 reported a brief snag at the coker unit at its Benicia, California refinery. The event had no material impact on operations, the company said. A person familiar with operations at BP's (BP) Carson, Calif., refinery said the FCCU and associated units shut over the July 11-12 weekend would be restarted at the end of the July

ConocoPhillips (COP) recently shut an FCCU at its Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse, La., for unplanned maintenance, a trade source said July 15. The work is expected to take seven to 10 days.
