LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Britain's leading energy suppliers have been
approached by government advisers to sound out interest in its 35.2 pct stake in
British Energy Group, which is valued at 2 bln stg-plus, the Financial Times
reported on Saturday, quoting people close to the situation.
The sources said E.on AG and RWE AG(NEU) of Germany, Electricite de France,
Iberdrola SA of Spain and Centrica of the UK have all been asked if they would
be interested in acquiring part of the stake.
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, citing UK energy industry sources, also
reported that RWE was one of four parties interested in bidding for a majority
stake British Energy. A spokesman for RWE declined to comment
British Energy will likely publish a short-list of bidders in the coming
weeks, the German newspaper added.
The UK government has appointed UBS to help with a potential sale process,
while British Energy has appointed NM Rothschild as its adviser, the FT said.
