LONDON (Thomson Financial) - The UK Government will not meet its renewable
energy generation target without widespread regulatory planning reforms,
National Grid Plc. said.
Speaking at NG's annual energy conference, Chris Bennett, manager of
National Grid's future transmission network said the government's target of
creating 15 percent of energy from renewables "requires rapid change in
regulatory regimes and incentives to facilitate construction, connection and
operation of associated networks."
Without these, Bennett said, the government will fall "substantially short"
of its 15 percent target.
As part of the target, the UK plans to create up to 40 percent of
electricity from renewables but National Grid said that the base case scenario
shows only 16 percent.
