NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Transocean Inc. Monday said its subsidiaries
have reached an agreement with subsidiaries of Petrobras Energia SA and Mitsui
to buy a newbuild ultra-deepwater drillship under a capital lease contract.
Petrobras and Transocean have entered into a 10-year drilling contract
covering worldwide operations with an option by Petrobras to extend the term of
the contract by up to an additional 10 years.
The 10-year contract is expected to start in the third quarter of 2009.
Contract revenue from the first 10 years is estimated to be $1.68 billion,
Transocean said.
Transocean shares closed at $148.81 on Friday.
