Abbey Plc announces that on 23 April 2008, it purchased 966,678 ordinary shares
of Euro0.32 each in the issued share capital of the Company ('Ordinary Shares') at
Euro5.75 per share for cancellation.
Following the above the total number of Ordinary Shares in issue is 24,626,992.
This purchase was made pursuant to the authority granted by shareholders at an
Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company held on 19 November 2007. To date
4,342,531 shares have been repurchased, being the maximum allowed under this
authority.
