Tokyo, July 16, 2008 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation
(TMC) announces its decision to acquire land in the city of Sorocaba, in the Brazilian state of
Sao Paulo, as the site for a new plant for Toyota do Brasil Ltda. (TDB), TMC's Brazil-based
sales and manufacturing company.
Concrete plans are being studied with a mind
to opening a new compact vehicle plant in 2011 or after on the 3.7-million-square-meter plot.
The plant would have a starting annual production capacity of approximately 150,000 vehicles
and create jobs for approximately 2,500 people.
TDB - established in 1958 as
TMC's first overseas production base and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year -
represents part of TMC's commitment to building an optimal worldwide production system based on
TMC's policy of making vehicles where they are sold.
