BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional service organizations, today announced that Joe Johnson, Karen Stone and Ted Vaughan have each been elected to three year terms to the firm’s board of directors. Ms. Stone and Mr. Vaughan are new directors, while Mr. Johnson was re-elected to a new term of service. These changes are effective November 1.

Joe B. Johnson, is a partner and a member of the BDO USA board of directors since 2012. Mr. Johnson’s current board duties include the chairmanship of the partner matters committee and membership on the compliance and ethics committee. He also serves as the board representative for BDO’s Women’s Initiative and sits on the firm’s core values philanthropy committee. Mr. Johnson, who serves as the managing partner of the assurance practice for the firm’s Orange County office, has approximately 30 years of public accounting experience providing business consulting and assurance services to growing private and publicly-held companies. Joe works with organizations in a broad range of industries, including service, pharmaceutical, high technology, hospitality, software, manufacturing and distribution, and financial services. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of CPAs, Joe received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Southern California and his M.B.A. in Finance from California State University, Fullerton. In addition to his firm commitments, Mr. Johnson also serves on the advisory board of the Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance of the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Fullerton and the accounting advisory board of the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Joe is a founding and active board member of the Be Perfect Foundation – an organization that benefits spinal cord injury victims.

Karen Stone is a partner and the office managing partner for tax services in Nashville and Memphis. During her more than 25-year career in public accounting, she has served clients in multiple industries with a focus on the tax consulting and reporting needs of real estate, manufacturing, consumer business and healthcare companies. Karen has extensive experience in all areas of taxation working with closely held businesses, large publicly traded companies, portfolio companies of private equity firms, as well as high-net worth individuals. She regularly assists her clients with an array of tax specialty areas including merger and acquisition issues. A graduate of Louisiana Tech University, Karen serves as co-chair of BDO USA’s Women’s Inclusion Strategy Group. A member of the AICPA and the Tennessee State Society of CPAs, she is also a member of the Nashville Healthcare Council, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and the Tennessee Association for Corporate Growth.

Ted Vaughan, is a Dallas-based assurance partner with 22 years of audit and assurance experience. He also serves as the Public Company Practice Leader for BDO and one of the leaders of the firm’s Consumer Business practice. His clients are primarily publicly-held companies or private equity portfolio businesses that are developing plans to enter into public offerings or other transactions. In his consumer business role, Ted focuses on the accounting and reporting issues facing companies in the retail industry and develops numerous retail-specific audit programs for audits of internal control over financial reporting. Ted also manages various areas of quality control for BDO. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Ted is a member of the AICPA and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
