MAJOR U.S. EQUITY INDEXES:
Stocks look set to open higher on Wall Street Wednesday as the price of
crude oil rose slightly.
Futures on the Dow Jones industrial average were up 30 points to 12,306,
Nasdaq futures rose 5.00 to 1,978.25, and Standard & Poor's futures rose 3.40 to
1,359.60.
Wall Street closed mostly lower Tuesday after a dip in oil prices failed to
keep investors from fretting over the economic consequences of steep energy
costs. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 9.44 points, or 0.08%, to close at
12,289.76, the Nasdaq composite index lost 10.52, or 0.43%, to 2,448.94, and the
Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3.32, or 0.24%, to 1,358.44. The yield on the
benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 4.1% from 3.99% late Monday, and crude
dropped $3.04 to settle at $131.31 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

AFTER-HOURS ACTION:
After Tuesday's close of trading, Amerigroup Corp. said it is suspending its
full-year profit forecast pending the completion of rate negotiations with the
state of Tennessee. An Australian joint venture of Alcoa Inc. said its alumina
supply contracts will be disrupted because of an explosion. Hartford Financial
Services Group Inc. said it entered into a $500 million accelerated stock
repurchase agreement with Credit Suisse.
