MAJOR U.S. EQUITY INDEXES:
U.S. stock futures are higher following a second-quarter report from
JPMorgan Chase & Co. that saw earnings fall, hurt by $1.1 billion in write-downs
at the investment bank.
Net income dropped to $2 billion, or 54 cents a share, from $4.23 billion,
or $1.20 a share, a year earlier.
Futures on the Dow Jones industrial average rose 57 points to 11,263, Nasdaq
futures rose 9.25 to 1,854.00, while Standard & Poor's 500 futures rose 7.00 to
1,248.00.
On Wednesday, Wall Street shrugged off some of its many concerns and bounded
higher thanks to a drop in oil prices. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 276
points, or 2.5%, posting its best daily gain in three months. The broader
Standard & Poor's 500 index also gained 2.5%, while the technology-dominated
Nasdaq composite index surged 3.1%.
Light, sweet crude fell $4.14 to settle at $134.60 a barrel on the New York
Mercantile Exchange, bringing its two-day decline to $10.58.
This report contains news from the Associated Press.
