MAJOR U.S. EQUITY INDEXES:
Stocks look set to open lower Friday in the U.S. as investors await closely
watched payrolls data.
The Dow Jones industrial average is expected to open 16 points lower at
12,602, Nasdaq futures were down 1.50 to 2,054.75, and S&P futures fell 2.40 to
1,402.90.
Wall Street surged Thursday as investors looked past a sharp rebound in oil
prices and focused on comforting news about the economy.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 213.97, or 1.73%, to close at
12,604.45, the Nasdaq composite index surged 46.80, or 1.87%, to 2,549.94, and
the Standard & Poor's 500 index added 26.85, or 1.95%, to 1,404.05. The yield on
the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 4.04% from 3.98% late Wednesday, and
light, sweet crude oil rose $5.49 at $127.79 a barrel on the New York Mercantile
Exchange.

AFTER-HOURS ACTION:
After Thursday's close of trading, National Semiconductor Corp. reported
fiscal fourth-quarter results above analyst estimates. Take-Two Interactive
Software Inc. said it swung to a fiscal second-quarter profit, helped by strong
sales of "Grand Theft Auto IV." Quiksilver Inc. reported a wider loss in its
fiscal second quarter because of a hefty loss from discontinued operations.
