WASHINGTON, April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Advisory
Board Company announced today the launch of the Health Care
Sustainability Initiative (HCSI)™, which offers a free, publicly
available toolkit that enables hospitals to reduce environmental
footprints while decreasing costs.
Environmental sustainability is a growing concern among hospital
leaders, though many hospitals and health systems do not have the
resources to develop a full sustainability program. To serve
hospitals nationwide in the pursuit of reducing costs while
protecting the environment, a pro bono research team at the
Advisory Board has compiled an action-oriented toolkit designed for
immediate use by hospitals and health systems.
The free toolkit includes:
- An infographic on 10 "low-hanging fruit" opportunities to save
money and reduce environmental impact;
- Ten tactical briefs on opportunities to save energy, optimize
purchasing, and reduce waste;
- A best practice-based energy reduction tool to calculate
potential savings and learn about tactics; and
- Research, news articles, and blog posts relevant to
environmental sustainability.
"The Advisory Board Company is celebrating this Earth Day as an opportunity to release these
resources to help hospitals be better environmental stewards and
cut costs," said Graham McLaughlin,
Managing Director of Community Impact, the Advisory Board's
corporate responsibility program. "The HCSI offers a free
body of resources that will help hospitals across the nation
promote community health, increase employee and patient engagement,
and save millions of dollars annually."
The firm believes deeply in the importance of environmental
sustainability, as shown through internal sustainability efforts
such as locating offices in LEED-certified buildings and utilizing
travel reduction programs. Through the HCSI, the Advisory
Board aims to help all health care providers, regardless of means,
pursue similar sustainability goals.
Visit the Health Care Sustainability Initiative website to

Impact division of the Advisory Board is working with its member
