Terremark Worldwide Selects Lucent Technologies and LightSpeed Technologies for Advanced Optical Cross Connect Platform

Sale includes 1,000th LambdaUnite(R) Multiservice Optical Switch shipped by Lucent

MIAMI and CHICAGO, June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and LightSpeed Technologies, an accredited Lucent Sales Business Partner, today announced an agreement with Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (AMEX: TWW), a leading operator of integrated Tier-1 Internet exchanges and a global provider of managed IT infrastructure solutions for government and private sectors, to deploy an advanced optical cross connect platform.

Terremark has deployed Lucent's LambdaUnite(R) Multiservice Switch (MSS), Metropolis(R) DMX Access Multiplexer, Metropolis(R) ADM Multiservice Mux, and the Lucent Optical Management System (OMS) software, all provided by LightSpeed Technologies.

The Lucent optical platform allows Terremark to manage multiple locations from its centralized 24/7 Network Operations Center and provide its customers with value add services from the platform. Terremark's facilities house global carrier and ISP networks that interconnect via this platform in the common meet point room. This meet point room interconnection point also allows its carrier and ISP customer base to interconnect with other Terremark Enterprise customers to deliver their services.

"In our continued efforts to serve our customers needs, we have found that the dependability and features of the Lucent optical solution, including the LambdaUnite(R), have ensured the highest quality of service available," said Marvin Wheeler, chief operations officer at Terremark.

The sale to Terremark represents the 1,000th LambdaUnite(R) Multiservice Switch shipped by Lucent since the product was introduced January 2002.

According to the Dell'Oro Group, a leading independent telecom market analysis firm, the LambdaUnite system has held the No. 1 position in the global optical cross connect market for the past two calendar years. In the last reported quarter (1QCY2006), Dell'Oro said LambdaUnite(R) sales accounted for more than 40 percent of total optical cross connect revenue, an increase from the total global market share for 2004 and 2005 of nearly 32 percent each.

"Clearly, the LambdaUnite(R) Multiservice Switch delivers the technological leadership and value that customers like Terremark demand," said Gerry Cafaro, sales vice president for Lucent. "As the first to provide commercial grade 40G optical interfaces, the LambdaUnite(R) has an elegant architectural approach that fully supports mesh networking and interoperability with systems from other manufacturers, as well as delivery of Gigabit Ethernet services for service providers like Terremark."

"LightSpeed is proud to have Terremark's state of the art facilities worldwide as one of our customers," said John Brannon, president and chief executive officer of LightSpeed Technologies. "Terremark's secured, redundant and resilient facilities combined with Lucent's innovative product solutions have enabled them to expand their product offerings and provide the highest level of service to their customers."

The system architecture is based on a full non-blocking duplicated switch matrix, including 160G, 320G and 640G capacities that can be upgraded while in-service. The product's comprehensive set of standards compliant ring capabilities greatly reduces the need for costly additional cross-connects and multiplexing systems, further reducing initial and ongoing equipment costs. LambdaUnite(R) MSS complies with Carrier Ethernet services requirements defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).
