TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - Share prices closed higher, tracking Wall Street's gains
overnight after better-than-expected US economic data and the Federal Reserve's
move on Wednesday to cut its key interest rate by another 25 basis points.
Investors also took comfort from repeated assurances by president-elect Ma
Ying-jeou that the appointment of Lai Shin-yuan of the pro-independence Taiwan
Solidarity Union to head Taiwan's China policy body will not get in the way of
improving ties with the mainland, dealers said.
The weighted index closed up 43.71 points or 0.49 pct at 8,963.63, after
trading in a range between 8,950.28 and 9,010.71.
Turnover was 177.76 bln twd.
For the week, the index rose 15.80 points, a 0.18 pct gain.
