MAJOR U.S. EQUITY INDEXES:
Wall Street is on track to open sharply lower Thursday as a tumbling U.S.
dollar only served to stoke fears about the health of the U.S. economy, with
investors also nervous about a slowdown in consumer spending ahead of retail
sales data.
According to spread bettors IG Index, the Dow Jones industrial average is
expected to open down 140 points at 11,970. S&P 500 futures were down 4.90
points at 1,304.50, while Nasdaq 100 futures fell 20.75 points to 1,714.
On Wednesday, Wall Street's excitement over a $200 billion plan from the
Federal Reserve turned to caution, leading stocks to retreat a day after their
biggest rally in more than five years.
The industrials fell 46.57 points, or 0.38%, to 12,110.24, while the Nasdaq
composite index lost 11.89, or 0.53%, to 2,243.87. The S&P 500 index sank 11.88,
or 0.9%, to 1,308.77.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 3.44% from 3.59% late
Tuesday, and crude finished at a record settlement of $109.92 a barrel on the
New York Mercantile Exchange.
