MAJOR U.S. EQUITY INDEXES:
Stocks look set to begin higher Monday after the long Easter break in the
U.S.
Standard & Poor's 500 futures were up 8.30 points, while Nasdaq futures rose
7.25 points.
On Thursday, Wall Street capped a week of volatility with a big advance that
left stocks higher for the week but didn't silence all of investors' concerns
about the economy and the financial system. The stock market was closed Friday
in the U.S.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 261.66 points, or 2.16%, to 12,361.32,
the Nasdaq composite index gained 48.15, or 2.18%, to 2,258.11, and the Standard
& Poor's 500 index added 31.09, or 2.39%, to 1,329.51.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 3.34% from 3.41%
late Wednesday, and light, sweet crude fell 70 cents to settle at $101.84 on the
New York Mercantile Exchange.

AFTER-HOURS ACTION:
After the closing bell Thursday, Palm Inc. posted third-quarter results that
fell short of Wall Street expectations as it reported a 24% drop in
third-quarter revenue. Synopsys Inc. said it agreed to acquire Synplicity Inc.
for $8 a share, or around $188 million, net of cash acquired. TierOne Corp. said
its board terminated a plan to sell itself to CapitalSource Inc. for $423.4
million.
