SurveyMonkey on Tuesday named tech industry veteran Bill Veghte its next chief executive, replacing the late David Goldberg.

Mr. Veghte, formerly Hewlett-Packard Co.'s operations chief, will assume the role Aug. 3. He previously spent 20 years at Microsoft Corp.

SurveyMonkey has been adding veteran leadership in the wake of Mr. Goldberg's untimely death two months ago. On Monday, Facebook Inc. operating chief Sheryl Sandberg said she is joining the company's board to help carry on her late husband's vision. Mr. Goldberg had led the online-questionnaire company for six years.

SurveyMonkey also said Monday that GoPro Inc. executive Zander Lurie will become a permanent executive chairman after serving as its interim chief executive for the past few months.

Facebook's former finance chief, David Ebersman, also is joining the company's board. Mr. Ebersman was CFO at Facebook during its 2012 initial public offering and left the social network earlier this year to co-found a personal health-care startup, Lyra Health.

Mr. Goldberg, a beloved fixture of Silicon Valley, had led several new initiatives at SurveyMonkey over the past year, including a benchmarking service that helps businesses measure how their customer and employee satisfaction compares with their competitors.
