Starbucks Corp. said early Saturday that it had resolved a broad
point-of-sale register outage at its company-operated stores in
North America.
"All Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada are expected to
open for business as usual" Saturday, the company said in a
statement posted on its website.
The outage had been caused by "a failure during a daily system
refresh," the coffee chain said in a previous statement Friday.
It wasn't immediately clear how long the payment systems had
been out of service.
Some Starbucks stores had been giving out free coffee during the
outage, according to an employee at a store in Chicago.
A spokesman for Starbucks didn't immediately respond to requests
for comment.
Starbucks directly operates about 7,400 stores in the U.S. and
1,000 in Canada.
