As customers finalize their holiday shopping, Starbucks
anticipates record purchases of Starbucks Cards on Dec. 24, citing
the trend for customers to push their gift card purchases later and
later. Last year, more than 2 million Starbucks Cards were
purchased in the U.S. and Canada on Christmas Eve. – representing
nearly 1,500 cards purchased per minute.
“More so than ever before, we have an unprecedented variety of
Starbucks Cards available to our customers – ranging from the
premium Sterling Silver Starbucks Card all the way through
monogrammed Cards, which can be purchased for $5,” said Ryan
Records, vice president of Starbucks Card. “One in every 8 American
adults received a Starbucks Card last holiday season, and we’re
well on track for another record performance in Starbucks Card
sales, as we celebrate our 14th year of offering Starbucks
Cards.”
The National Retail Federation reports that eight in ten
shoppers will purchase a gift card this holiday season, and this is
the eighth year in a row gift cards have topped wish lists. Since
Starbucks Card launched 13 years ago, more than $20 billion has
been loaded on Starbucks Cards in the U.S. and Canada alone, with
$4 billion of that in the past year. Today, Starbucks Cards are
available in 29 countries worldwide with further expansion planned
in 2015.
Starbucks Card Assortment
This holiday season, Starbucks introduced a new Starbucks Card
Collection, offering more than 100 different gift card designs,
from classic holiday themes to monograms and more, from Starbucks
in-house creative studio. This Card Collection offers an
unprecedented level of choice for customers, and is displayed
through a card wall in stores to encourage exploration of all the
designs available.
For ultimate Starbucks fans looking for a premium gift,
Starbucks is offering a Limited Edition Sterling Silver Starbucks
Card keychain. This Card is a beautifully-crafted, fully-functional
gift card, made with premium 925 Sterling Silver and engraved with
the Starbucks logo. Already sold out online, the Card comes
preloaded with $50, retails for $200 and is only available in
limited quantities at select Starbucks® stores nationwide, while

New this season, customers who pay using a Starbucks Card
(registration not required) or their Starbucks® mobile app can
enter the Starbucks® It’s a Wonderful Card Ultimate Giveaway* for a
chance to win one of 482,000 instant prizes, and 10 customers in
the U.S. will win the ultimate prize of Starbucks for Life, which
is one free food or beverage item from participating stores every
day for the next 30 years.
By swiping a Starbucks Card or paying with a mobile device,
customers will receive a receipt with a unique sweepstakes code
that can be entered online at starbucks.com/play for a chance to
win instant prizes, including free holiday beverages and treats, or
the grand prize, the Ultimate Starbucks Card, which provides the
winners with Starbucks for Life, an estimated value of $54,000
U.S.
With only 14 made, the Ultimate Starbucks Card not only provides
customers Starbucks for Life, but also a piece of Starbucks
history. With an estimated retail value of $5,000, the card is made
of 10K hammered gold, and will be engraved with the winner’s name.
A total of 10 Ultimate Starbucks Cards will be available to win in
the U.S., three in Canada, and one in the U.K., making it the most
exclusive Starbucks Card ever made.
