PENSACOLA, Fla., April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The iconic,
50-year-old roadhouse will be holding its 31st Annual
Mullet Toss this week April 23-26,
but with another surprise addition. Jimmy Buffet may not be
throwing the first fish Friday at noon, but a refurbished
Flora-Bama Ole River Bar, directly
across the street (site of the old Panama Mac's), will guarantee
that there'll be plenty of food, excitement and ice cold beverages
for all.
The main event consists of folks throwing a mullet, a mystical
fish possessing a gizzard, out of a10-foot circle, from
Florida towards Alabama. Overall winners win a Mullet Dinner
for Two at "The Original Point Restaurant"! Other trophies will be
awarded, 3-deep in 19 total age categories, male & female, for
each day of toss, Friday through Sunday, beginning at 10am. Entry fee is $15, which includes a souvenir t-shirt, with
portion of proceeds to benefit the Community Drug & Alcohol
Council, Inc., local Boys & Girls Clubs, and youth groups on
both sides of the line!
The Bud-Light "Miss Mullet Toss" bikini contest will be held at
3pm Friday & Saturday, with top
finishers eligible for the $5,000
Miss Flora-Bama finals on Labor Day!
Other events to include a keg toss, corn hole beanbag series, and a
special Mr. Mullet Toss Hot Body contest Thursday at 6pm, and Friday & Saturday at 1pm.
Among the three eateries are now on premise, the Yacht Club,
newly opened Ole River Bar and the
original Flora-Bama Lounge and Oyster Bar on the Gulf will feature
Cajun Cooked Crawfish, Shrimp, Oysters, along with the famous
"Bama Burger".
The cover charge, Gulf side only, begins Thursday evening at
6pm and Friday through Sunday at
9am. Cover is $10 for those 21+, and $15 for 13-20 year olds, with limited entry after
6pm. 21 and up only after
6pm. Membership Cards, available on
line or at the door are $45 and good
for the entire event. Cash only for bar sales on Friday and
Saturday, with plenty of ATM's available.
Parking lots will be manned by local charities and youth sport
groups and is $10 per car. Shuttles
at $3 per head will be running
non-stop starting 7am on Friday, Saturday
and Sunday. Pick up spots are the Publix parking lot in
Orange Beach and the Winn-Dixie lot in Perdido Key. You can also call a taxi in
Alabama or a taxi in Florida.
