SoftBrands Implements SAP Business One at VWR International's Shanghai Facility

SAP Business One Helps Smaller Subsidiaries Work More Efficiently with Other VWR Facilities

MINNEAPOLIS, April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VWR International, a global distributor of scientific equipment and supplies for laboratory research, has selected SoftBrands, Inc. (AMEX:SBN), to implement SAP Business One at VWR International's Shanghai site. VWR operates in more than 20 countries and employs more than 6,000 people worldwide.

The company has implemented SAP Business One enterprise resource planning software at 3 subsidiary locations as part of its effort to make process management and data sharing among facilities more efficient. SoftBrands is a global supplier of enterprise application software and services and an award-winning partner of SAP that develops ERP software for small and midsize manufacturers. SoftBrands' large-enterprise group helps companies like VWR International integrate smaller, remote facilities into broader corporate SAP ecosystems.

"Our European entities run on SAP ECC 6.0, and we look forward to joining them on that platform some day. However, due to timing and costs constraints, we chose SAP Business One to give us speed and basic functionality for the near term," said Al Jurgela, Asia Pacific regional director for VWR International. "We have chosen SoftBrands due to its experience and infrastructure to support us throughout Asia."

SoftBrands serves small and midsize companies around the world as well as subsidiaries of large organizations that want to standardize on SAP-centric solutions. SoftBrands has expertise working with companies in the consumer packaged goods, chemicals, life sciences, metal fabrication and electronics industries.

"Some IT departments prefer the control and consistency of centralized technologies, and others see value in giving subsidiaries more flexibility in meeting their specific requirements," said Diane Palmquist, vice president of SAP products at SoftBrands. "Implementing SAP Business One gives large enterprises best of both worlds, letting their subsidiaries run a system built just for their needs, while staying connected to the corporate SAP backbone."
