Smiths Detection Advanced Explosives Trace Portal Tapped for Fast Lane Option Alliance Registered Traveler Solution

Company to Deliver State-of-the-Art Screening Technology for Fast Lane Option Registered Traveler Lanes

KIRKLAND, Wash., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Fast Lane Option (FLO) Alliance, a group of industry leaders that includes Saflink Corporation (NASDAQ:SFLK), Microsoft, JPMorgan Chase, Johnson Controls, Inc., ID Technology Partners and The Paradies Shops, today announced the addition of a new technology partner, Smiths Detection. As a world leading provider of explosives trace detection and X-ray security screening equipment, Smiths Detection will supply the security equipment -- including the Sentinel II explosive detection walk-through trace portals -- for FLO, a Registered Traveler (RT) Program.

"Smiths Detection continues to pursue the development of technologies that will optimize the passenger's security checkpoint experience while providing increased overall security," said Mark Laustra, Vice President and General Manager, Smiths Detection. "We are pleased to have our security equipment, including the Sentinel II, included as a central part of the FLO Registered Traveler solution. Our advanced explosives screening system is designed not only to benefit travelers by expediting the security screening process, but also help to free up airport security personnel so that they can focus their attention on high-risk or unknown travelers."

The Sentinel II is currently deployed at major metro-area and International airports, including JFK International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) and the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS). The Sentinel II is a state-of-the-art explosives trace detection system that utilizes proven Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS). The walk-through trace portal operates automatically, passing air gently over a person from head to toe, releasing any particles that are naturally absorbed by or cling to a person's clothing, hair or body. These particles are then drawn by a vacuum and collected for analysis. Detection of particles or vapors can indicate that a person is either carrying an explosive device or has come into contact with explosive substances.

"The efficiency and speed of checkpoint screening technology in FLO Registered Traveler lanes is an important differentiator from traditional security lanes," said Glenn Argenbright, CEO of Saflink. "With its advanced security technologies, checkpoint experience and track record, I believe Smiths Detection will play an important role in establishing the FLO solution in the market place. Utilizing the Sentinel II, can help travelers passing through FLO lanes to significantly increase checkpoint throughput, improve customer satisfaction and heighten security."

The FLO Alliance for Registered Traveler, initially formed in 2005, brings together industry leaders in technology, finance and facilities infrastructure and security systems, in addition to companies with broad experience marketing to businesses, consumers and the aviation industry. The Alliance's solution provides for the complete Registered Traveler credentialing process and its operational use in airports. Built on the proven technologies of its members, the FLO Alliance Registered Traveler architecture covers: the enrollment of biographic and biometric information and identity verification of participating individuals; collection of program fees; production and issuance of secure, tamper-proof FLO credentials; installation, maintenance and management of authentication platforms within aviation facilities throughout the United States; and operations management and customer service for the nationwide subscription program.
