RSNA 2015: South Building, Hall A, Booth 4136
At the 101st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Nov. 29 to Dec. 4 at
McCormick Place in Chicago, Siemens Healthcare introduces a wide
array of cutting-edge diagnostic and interventional systems that
help health care facilities perform optimally in the wake of
increasing cost pressure, an expanding emphasis on quality
measures, and mounting time constraints. With its RSNA 2015
portfolio, Siemens Healthcare provides the tools necessary to
deliver the best patient outcomes in the most efficient manner
possible, making each day pay off for patients and for health care
institutions.
At RSNA 2015, Siemens showcases the following new
innovations:
Angiography
Siemens adds two new features to its established PURE® platform,
which simplifies the adoption and utilization of advanced features
on the Artis zee®, Artis Q, and Artis Q.zen angiography systems.
Designed to aid in endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), syngo EVAR
Guidance² offers automated detection of vessel walls on computed
tomography (CT) datasets as well as automatic placement of
landmarks for 3D image guidance. Additionally, it suggests the
optimal angulation of C-arms for precise deployment. Enabling
better treatment of highly challenging chronic total occlusions
(CTOs), syngo CTO Guidance² automatically segments coronary
computed tomography angiography (CTA) images in addition to
providing procedural guidance.
Molecular Imaging
The versatile new Biograph Horizon™ ¹ positron emission
tomography/computed tomography (PET•CT) system offers premium
performance at an attractive level of investment. Leveraging the
standard in PET/CT technology, the system images patients using all
commercially available PET tracers, enabling users to address more
indications in oncology, neurology and cardiology. To help
physicians visualize small lesions earlier, Biograph Horizon’s 4 mm
lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO) crystals scintillate faster and
have a higher light output compared to BGO crystals3, providing
high resolution for an outstanding level of image quality and
enabling Time-of-Flight.4 The system simplifies staff’s daily
routine by automating manual tasks and offering fast acquisition,
image delivery and case processing to increase productivity.
Configured specifically for Biograph Horizon, syngo.via Molecular
Imaging Workplace4 is a cost-effective image processing solution
that can expand to meet changing clinical needs. And as the
smallest5 PET/CT system with the lowest5 power requirements,
Biograph Horizon can help minimize a facility’s initial capital
investment, while low operating and maintenance costs help manage
the total cost of ownership.
Radiography
Siemens unveils three brand-new models of its Cios family of
C-arms. Offering the state-of-the-art flat panel detectors of the
established Cios Alpha mobile C-arm system in the medium price
segment, the new Cios Fusion6 boasts two detector sizes – 30 cm x
30 cm and 20 cm x 20 cm. Additionally, the Cios Fusion features
software packages adapted from the Cios Alpha and an additional
touchscreen that can be positioned at the operating table to
control the C-arm from within the sterile work area. The new Cios
Connect6 – a lightweight C-arm weighing only 547 lbs. – provides a
broad area of applications to the medium market segment. Special
software options enable physicians to display individual images
simultaneously in subtracted and X-ray views, to optimize the
presentation of contrast and bone. Finally, the new entry-level
Cios Select6 C-arm is user-friendly, with color coding that
facilitates communication between surgeon and staff. And as part of
the entire Cios family, the Cios Select uses the image processing
algorithm IDEAL (Intelligent Dose Efficiency Algorithm) to provide
continuous contrast and brightness adjustments as well as automatic
dose-performance adjustment.
Additionally, Siemens announces a new version of its established
Cios Alpha mobile C-arm system, which boasts a square flat-panel
detector to help deliver optimum levels of minimally invasive
intervention in the modern surgical environment. Revised software
delivers a large preview image to enable OR staff to select
appropriate image settings more easily. A new one-touch metal
correction function compensates for metal image components to
enable the representation of surrounding tissue with greater
contrast. And to mark anatomical structures, the Cios Alpha’s Live
Graphical Overlay function is no longer reserved for vascular
surgery users and can now be used in all operating modes.
Ultrasound
Siemens showcases the ACUSON NX37 and ACUSON NX3 Elite7, two new
ultrasound systems designed specifically to accommodate clinician
workflow. Both mid-range systems offer an intuitive interface
combined with innovative imaging solutions for examinations
primarily in general medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics
and neurology. The ACUSON NX3 offers a new approach to scanning,
with three times more customizable keys, as well as faster
workflow, with 28 percent fewer keystrokes. The customizable
control panel and touch screen, combined with Siemens’ workflow
innovations, enable the user to perform certain routine anatomical
measurements up to 76 percent faster8 than traditional solutions.
And in addition to featuring the largest LED monitor8 (21.5 inches)
and touch screen8 (10.4 inches) in their class, the ACUSON NX3
systems possess Clarify™ Vascular Enhancement technology, which
provides multiple levels of clarification to optimize tissue
contrast resolution and definition of tissue and vessel walls.
Additionally, the ACUSON NX3 systems feature Siemens’ exclusive 16
MHz transducer, which facilitates breast and musculoskeletal
imaging, and the exclusive 220-degree endocavity transducer, with a
field of view (FoV) up to 75 percent larger than standard
ultrasound probes. Features on the Elite version of the ACUSON NX3
include an adjustable, ergonomic control panel; advanced
transducers; and eSie Touch, which uses gentle compression to
provide a high-resolution elastogram depicting relative tissue
stiffness.
And for its established ACUSON S Family™ of premium ultrasound
systems – the ACUSON S1000, ACUSON S2000, and ACUSON S3000 –
Siemens introduces HELX Evolution with Touch Control,9 a hardware
and software redesign created to help users improve system
operation and reduce user error during examinations. Thanks to HELX
Evolution with Touch Control, a completely reworked user interface
simplifies operation across the ACUSON S Family with 44 percent
fewer software keys, 33 percent fewer tactile keys, and 22 percent
fewer home base controls.10 The control panel features a new
intuitive touch display that helps users eliminate unnecessary
workflow steps. New imaging optimization technologies enhance image
quality with challenging patients and in abdominal, breast,
vascular and musculoskeletal exams. Improved shear wave
elastography technologies provide more information in a single
image for quantitative or qualitative tissue characterization. And
multi-modality imaging, where real-time ultrasound is superimposed
onto 3D CT or MRI volumes, is complemented with newly enhanced
workflow tools to increase relevancy and practical use in the
clinical routine.
