Siemens AG (SIEGY, SIE.XE) said it has received a contract valued at $648 million to provide 175 light-rail cars for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's Muni system.

The contract has an option for another 85 cars.

Siemens said the first deliveries are scheduled to take place by the end of 2016.

The company will produce a newly developed light rail car based on its Model S200.

In another train contract, Siemens said last week that it will build locomotives and passenger coaches for the All Aboard Florida passenger-rail project being developed by freight-rail company Florida East Coast Industries.
