Securian Promotes Six Senior Managers

The Securian Financial Group board of directors named five new
corporate officers at its February 9 board meeting.
Suzette Huovinen was appointed Chief Risk Officer and Chief
Actuary. She succeeds Leslie Chapman who is retiring after 38 years
of service at Securian.
Huovinen will lead Securian’s corporate actuarial practice. She
joined Securian in 1997 and was promoted to positions of greater
responsibility in the intervening years. She played a key role in
developing the company’s enterprise risk management program.
Huovinen, a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., is a
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Chartered Financial Analyst,
Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst, and Member of the Academy of
Actuaries.
Dan Kruse was appointed Vice President and Actuary of Individual
Annuity Products where he served as Second Vice President since
2008.
Kruse joined Securian in 1985, moving from actuarial student
intern to leading the entire individual annuity product line
including operations and customer service. He has a Bachelor of
Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Upper Iowa
University and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. He is a
Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American
Academy of Actuaries.
Rich Binger will serve as Second Vice President, Application
Development, Development Support and IT Finance.
Binger began his career at Securian in 1986 and has worked on
critical technology initiatives which ensure client data security.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Mathematics
from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD.
Craig Stapleton is promoted to Second Vice President and
Portfolio Manager, Quantitative Strategies.
Stapleton joined Securian in 2005. In January 2015, he was
appointed a member of the Securian Risk Council which monitors and
addresses risk for the enterprise. Stapleton holds a Bachelor of
Science in Computer Engineering and a Master of Business
Administration in Finance from the University of Illinois. He has
also earned designations as CFA and Financial Risk Manager.
Mary Streed will serve as Second Vice President, Human Resources
Planning.
Streed was hired in 1985 and has served in a variety of
positions during the past 30 years, joining the Human Resources
team in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business
Administration and English from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.,
and a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from the
University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.
In addition to its officer appointments, Securian also promoted
Dr. Gretchen Bosacker to Chief Medical Director. Bosacker succeeds
Dr. George Battis who is retiring after 30 years of service at
Securian.
Prior to joining Securian in 2011, Bosacker served in the United
States Navy as General Medical Officer and in private practice as a
family physician. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Clemson
University, Clemson, SC, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical
University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. She is board
certified with the American Board of Family Medicine. She has
passed the Insurance Medicine written board exams as well as
several CLU exams and has earned the Associate, Life and Health
Claims (ALHC) designation.
