PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Sanofi-Aventis said its experimental cancer drug
Aflibercept has failed to achieve its primary endpoint in a Phase 2 study into
its use to treat advanced ovarian cancer.
The study results were consistent with interim data reported last year,
Sanofi-Aventis said. In a statement, Sanofi-Aventis said it was "encouraged" by
the study's results and said it would continue to "evaluate the data from this
trial in order to determine the next stops for Aflibercept in advanced ovarian
cancer."
Sanofi-Aventis is developing Aflibercept in cooperation with Regeneron
Pharmaceuticals Inc.
The two companies are currently enrolling patients for a Phase 3 study of
Aflibercept in combination with chemotherapy.
