Sanderson Farms Recalling a Half-Million Pounds of Chicken
September 24 2015 - 10:20PM
Dow Jones News
Sanderson Farms Inc. is voluntarily recalling 551,090 pounds of
chicken products after a sample contained foreign material.
The company said none of the products were shipped to grocery
stores or packed directly for consumers. Sanderson is aware of no
injuries or adverse reactions related to the items, which were
produced at its Hazlehurst, Miss., plant last week.
A Sanderson customer and the U.S. Department of Agriculture
analyzed the sample.
Sanderson, based in Laurel, Miss., has about 7% of the overall
U.S. poultry market, behind Tyson Foods Inc. and Pilgrim's Pride
Corp., and is a supplier for customers including Sysco Corp.,
Kroger Co. and Arby's.
On Aug. 25, the company reported lower sales and earnings for
the quarter ended July 31, reflecting pricing pressure in several
product categories.
