1005 ET 26Dec2008-Caris drops price target on Cinemark by 41 pct

Caris & Co Friday slashed its price target on Cinemark Holdings, dropping
it 41.2 percent to $10 from $17. The firm said it was taking a more cautious
view on in-theater advertising going into 2009 "given the overall state of the
current macro environment."
Shares of the company slid 3.6 percent to $6.95 while peer company
National Cinema Media rose 0.4 percent to $8.67.

1000 ET 26Dec2008-FTC ends waiting period for King Pharma deal

The Federal Trade Commission Friday accepted consent decree and ended the
waiting period for King Pharmaceuticals's acquisition of Alpharma . The FTC said
it would require the divestiture of certain assets related to Alpharma's drug
Kadian, which treats chronic pain.
King Pharma shares slid 1.9 percent to $10.14 while Alpharma shares
gained 1.9 percent to $36.91.

Discount retailer Wal-Mart Stores Friday said it would begin selling
Apple Inc 3G line iPhone, available Dec. 28. The 8 gigabyte model will sell for
$197 while the 16 GB model will go for $297.
Shares of Wal-Mart, a Dow component, were flat at $55.42 while Apple
shares gained 2 percent to $86.75.

Shares of online retailers rallied on Friday, after Amazon.com Inc said
it posted its best holiday sales season ever, despite poor macroeconomic
conditions and weak customer spending.
Amazon shares gained 4 percent to $53.50 while Ebay Inc was up 1 percent
to $13.79 and Overstock.com Inc added 3.4 percent to $12.38. Luxury online
retailer Blue Nile fell 0.6 percent to $24.52.

Major U.S. indexes opened modestly higher on Friday, the day after the
Christmas holiday, with investors looking to General Motors, whose GMAC unit was
recently approved to become a bank holding company.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.5 percent to 8,512.92 while the
S&P 500 rose 0.5 percent to 872.73 and the Nasdaq rose 0.4 percent to 1,530.71.

U.S. retail sales fell by as much as 4 percent during the holiday season,
according to data from SpendingPulse. Sales were hurt as the economic crisis and
weather problems kept consumers away from stores.
Michael McNamara, vice president of research and analysis at MasterCard
Advisors, described the retail environment as "one of the most challenging...
we've ever had in modern times."
