FURTHER IMPLEMENTATION OF THE POLICY REQUIREMENTS OF THE GOVERNMENT REGARDING NETWORK SPEED UPGRADE AND TARIFF REDUCTION

This announcement is made pursuant to Rule 13.09 of the Rules Governing the Listing of the Securities on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and Part XIVA of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571 of the Laws of Hong Kong).

In order to further implement the policy requirements of the government regarding network speed upgrade & tariff reduction, China Telecom Corporation Limited (the “Company”) will launch the upgrade service of unused handset data traffic carried forward to the next one month from 1 October this year. For those handset data traffic users subscribing to monthly packages with data traffic billing, the remaining unused data traffic in the monthly packages can be deferred and carried forward for use by the end of next month. The Company expects that the relevant concession measure will have adverse impact on the operating revenues and net profit of the Company to a certain extent. The Company will continue to proactively leverage its 4G network edge to encourage the customers to increase data usage upon speed upgrade & tariff reduction, aiming at increasing sales volume at lower unit prices and endeavouring to mitigate the impact on the revenues and net profit of the relevant concession measure so as to achieve a win-win situation and promote sustainable business development.

In the meantime, investors are advised to exercise caution in dealing in the securities of the Company.

By Order of the Board
