SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - Rent-A-Center Inc. late Monday reported
third-quarter net earnings of $25.3 million, or 37 cents a share, above the
32-cent mean estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial
The Plano, Texas-based rent-to-own chain said revenue in the quarter ended
Sept. 30 rose 20.9% to $709.7 million, topping the consensus forecast of $701
million, while same-store revenue fell 1.8%.
In the same period last year, Rent-A-Center posted net earnings of $25.2
million, or 36 cents a share, on revenue of $587.2 million.
For the fourth-quarter, the company expects earnings of 38 cents to 44 cents
a share on revenue of $708 million to $723 million.
Analysts are looking for a per-share profit of 49 cents on revenue of $734
million.
For fiscal 2008, the company forecast earnings of $1.95 to $2.10 a share on
revenue of $2.92 billion to $2.96 billion.
Analysts current expect per-share earnings of $2.37 on revenue of $3.05
billion.
