The Caucus for Addiction Solutions will advocate for those suffering from substance use disorders

In a continued effort to advocate for the millions of individuals suffering from behavioral health and substance use disorders, Recovery Centers of America, joins Facing Addiction as a key partner at the nonprofit’s Caucus for Addiction Solutions on Tuesday, July 26 during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

More than 45 million Americans are affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs today. Facing Addiction is working to make the event the largest caucus on addiction issues these conventions have ever seen, giving activists and organizations the opportunity to share their concerns with politicians and advocate for legislation related to addiction and recovery.

Robin Styer, regional director of business development and referral resources for Recovery Centers of America will volunteer in the Recovery Wellness Room at the convention, as one of the key advocates offering guidance and resources for attendees seeking recovery and substance use disorders treatment.

“As tireless advocates for addiction and recovery awareness, Recovery Centers of America was compelled to be part of Facing Addiction’s Caucus for Addiction Solutions,” Styer says. “We believe that addiction is a disease, and that treatment for recovery must be as accessible as treatment for asthma or cancers. We hope the Caucus for Addiction Solutions will call significant attention to the growing problem of addiction in the United States, and encourage our political leaders to take a stand, joining us in treating addicts with the respect and dignity they deserve as they face this terrible disease. We encourage anyone in need of recovery to call 1-800-RECOVERY today.”

Featured speakers at the Caucus include champion of the 2008 Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act and former Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), sponsor of the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), two-term Governor Jack Markell of Delaware, Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray, and Philadelphia Commissioner of Behavioral Health Dr. Arthur Evans.

“At Facing Addiction, we are committed to advocating for the urgency of making addiction, prevention, treatment, and recovery top priorities for our political leaders and all Americans,” says Aaron Kucharski, grassroots coordinator for Facing Addiction. “We are proud to bring this issue to the forefront at the Democratic National Convention, much like we did at the Republication National Convention last week. These educational caucuses give us an opportunity to make addiction a national priority.”

The Caucus for Addiction Solutions, hosted by Facing Addiction, will take place on Tuesday, July 26 at the Friends Center (1501 Cherry Street) from 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees are invited to learn more at the Recovery Wellness Room at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (1001 Arch Street) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28, where there will be four all-recovery meetings each day open to the public. Those interested in attending the Caucus for Addiction Solutions are encouraged to RSVP at www.facingaddiction.org/dnc.

About Recovery Centers of America

Based in King of Prussia, PA, Recovery Centers of America is committed to advocating for some 22.7 million Americans suffering from behavioral health and substance use disorders. The company, which is opening treatment centers throughout the Northeast, is transforming the way treatment is delivered in an industry in desperate need of change. Recovery Centers of America’s neighborhood-based centers for addiction medicine are designed based on the latest scientific research that indicates sustained recovery is more likely when patients stay connected to and supported by family and friends, while building other, ongoing support networks. By allowing patients to receive treatment in an atmosphere more akin to a college campus with an environment conducive to learning and change, Recovery Centers of America helps overcome the stigma of addiction and its treatment, which is essential to meaningful recovery.
