Initial TREO results from Greenland.
Rare Earth Minerals (AIM: REM) is pleased to provide its initial
highly encouraging exploration update and surface sampling results
for Rare Earth Elements ("REE") on its 100% owned Greenland
exploration licenses.
Highlights:
-- Initial assay results starting to be received from REE target in Greenland.
-- 4 of 10 samples exceeded 2,000 ppm Total Rare Earth Oxides
('TREO') with the highest at 2,887 ppm TREO.
-- TREO grades similar to the proximal Tanbreez deposit.
-- A total of 361 samples collected to date are currently being
analysed for REE's precious metals.
-- Exploration on REM's Greenland Licences is continuing.
David Lenigas, the Company's Chairman commented:
"These assay results, the first received from this year's
exploration activities in Greenland, along with the proximity of
the mineralised structure to two of the world's largest REE
deposits, is very encouraging indeed."
"We are awaiting the majority of the assay results from the
samples already dispatched for analysis for the current exploration
programme currently being carried out on our 100% owned licenses.
We are expecting further results to be released over the coming
weeks."
REE Sampling Results:
The REE rock chip sampling programme followed up on a
micro-kakortokite dyke identified by SRK Exploration Services Ltd
("SRK ES") in the northern part of REM's 100% owned 2012/15
exploration licence in Southern Greenland.
SRK Exploration Services Ltd. ("SRK ES") had previously
undertaken a structural interpretation on behalf of Rare Earth
Minerals plc ("REM") in order to generate exploration targets
within REM's 2012/15 exploration licence. This was carried out
using stereo aerial photographs and an automated 3D viewer facility
at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland ("GEUS").
Following this structural study, SRK ES concluded that a range
of targets are worthy of exploration within REM's licence 2012/15.
These targets include a micro-kakortokite dyke of significant width
(10-30 m) in the northern part of the licence that may have Rare
Earth Element ("REE") potential, given its similarities and
possible association to lithologies found at nearby world-class REE
deposits.
We are reporting today on the analytical results for 10 samples
collected from this micro-kakortokite dyke. Four samples exceed
2,000 ppm of TREO with the highest being 2,887 ppm TREO. These
grade are similar to those found at the 4.3 billion ore tonne
Tanbreez deposit owned by TANBREEZ Mining Greenland A/S which lies
approximately 2 kilometres to the south west of REM's
concessions.
This micro-kakortokite dyke lies immediately south of the
ilimaussaq complex which contains two of the largest REE element
deposits in the world (Tanbreez and Kvanefjeld). This dyke has the
same source rock as these deposits and has a strike length of 18 km
of which approximately 2-3km is exposed on REM's exploration
licenses.
Other Exploration Activities:
In addition to the REE exploration work our site managers
Greenland Minerals Energy Limited have been carrying out the
sampling of precious metal targets identified by the SRK ES in May
this year.
Sampling has comprised stream-sediment, rock chip and pan
concentrate sampling. Sulphides have been noted in many of the rock
chip samples, as has veining of varying intensity and alteration,
which are possible indications of a mineralising event.
A total of 361 samples have been collected to date, 176 stream
sediment samples, 131 rock chip samples and 217 pan concentrate
samples. These samples are being delivered to ALS laboratory in
Ireland for analysis for a variety of elements including precious
metals.
Results are expected to start arriving from further rock chip
samples in the coming weeks, followed by the stream sediment and
pan concentrate samples, and subsequent sample submissions.
Work is ongoing with field teams continuing to complete
reconnaissance sampling in target areas generated by the work
completed by SRK Exploration.
