SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - Rambus Inc. said Tuesday the Court of
Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a ruling vacating the order of the
Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and instructing that
Samsung's claims against Rambus be dismissed.
Rambus said the appeals court found that Judge Robert E. Payne's findings
were made without subject matter jurisdiction and thus became moot.
According to the company, Judge Payne held that the case was "exceptional"
and attempted to make factual findings against Rambus related to alleged
destruction of documents.
The appeals court ruling puts those claims to rest, Rambus said.
"We are pleased with this decision as it ends a years-long debate and
further clears the field to focus on the real issue of the ongoing patent
infringement of Samsung and the other DRAM manufacturers," said Tom Lavelle,
senior vice president and general counsel for Rambus, in a statement.
Shares of Los Altos, Calif.-based Rambus rose 5.9% to $23.56.
