NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- RadioShack Corp. (RSH) said it will carry Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) iPhone at a limited number of stores later this month.
In a press release, the retailer said stores in Dallas-Fort Worth and the New York City metropolitan areas will get the iPhone 3G and 3GS, while stores nationwide will carry the phones beginning in 2010.
A company spokesman declined further comment.
Earlier this month, RadioShack said it has begun running Target Corp.'s (TGT) mobile-phone departments under a new partnership in some of its stores. The company has also recently added T-Mobile phones and service plans from Deutsche Telekom AG's (DT, DTE.XE) T-Mobile unit to RadioShack stores.
RadioShack has taken several steps this year to boost its wireless business, including adding Verizon Wireless last month to 450 kiosks it operates at Sam's Club stores under that retailer's brand. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and Vodafone Group PLC (VOD). Sam's Club is a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT).
Wireless phones and services generate about a third of RadioShack's sales.
In after-hours trading, RadioShack shares are up 2% at $18.10.
