RadiSys Announces General Availability of Convedia CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers

IMS-optimized multimedia resource processors offer enhanced support for video, H.248 and voiceXML applications

HILLSBORO, Ore., May 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced today the general availability of its Convedia(R) CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 media servers. These solutions are based on a modular hardware platform which incorporates the latest DSPs and processor chipsets and utilize the company's eXtended Media Processing(TM) (eXMP(TM)) technology.

The processing of XML-based scripts for IVR applications, storing and retrieving multimedia files for messaging applications, as well as the growing use of low bit rate audio codecs, high complexity video codecs, and sophisticated VoIP security, including media encryption, require increasingly powerful and flexible IP media processing platforms.

The RadiSys Convedia CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers have been designed to provide optimal performance, flexibility, and economics for media-intensive IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks and services. These media servers enable fixed mobile convergence by delivering a shared IP media processing resource for any access network, including wireless, broadband, cable, PSTN or satellite.

The CMS-9000, a carrier-class IP media server, incorporates a family of new modular media processing cards. The processing cards are backwards compatible with CMS-6000 deployments, allowing existing customers to benefit from recent hardware advancements while fully protecting their investment in CMS-6000 systems.

The CMS-3000 media server, targeted at enterprise customers and smaller service providers, incorporates eXMP media processing technology in a 1RU network appliance packaging. Both products are backwards compatible with management and control interfaces from RadiSys, and meet or exceed Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) environmental standards for telecommunication equipment.

The media servers provide a standards-based Multimedia Resource Function Processor (MRFP) that can be shared across a broad range of IMS applications from multiple application suppliers. Increased processing power and I/O throughput results in dramatic performance improvements for XML-based IVR and messaging applications, while expanding multi-service versatility for numerous IMS applications, including multimedia conferencing, IP Centrex, ringback tones, network gaming, video communications, and complex audio/video transcoding.

The CMS-9000 is designed to accommodate future expansion cards, allowing modular capacity upgrades based on application requirements. The CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 are also the first products to incorporate the company's eXMP technology. This media processing software architecture provides a common foundation for a growing family of software media server, ATCA/blade server, and purpose-built hardware media server products.

"eXMP technology forms the technical foundation to extend the proven carrier-class media processing expertise of RadiSys to new markets and applications," said Grant Henderson, vice president, product marketing, RadiSys. "This advancement allows us to cover the entire range of media processing deployment options including small enterprise customer solutions running on third-party platforms such as uTCA -- and Linux(TM) -- based servers as well as the largest carrier-class IMS multi-service deployments deployed on Convedia purpose-built hardware or Promentum ATCA platforms. With eXMP technology we deliver a one-stop shop for IP media processing solutions, regardless of form-factor/platform, control protocol, market, or application."
