FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - RWE AG aims to lead efforts to launch of a
new company in which major European utilities will bundle their grid networks,
German weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported, citing internal documents.
RWE's chief executive Juergen Grossmann and other utilities' managers will
meet next week with chancellor Angela Merkel's chief of staff Thomas de Maiziere
to discuss such plans, the magazine said in an excerpt of an article to be
published tomorrow.
Germany's largest energy provider, E.ON AG, last month proposed selling off
its German power grid as well as 4,800 megawatts of power generation capacity to
end a pending antitrust dispute with the European Commission.
Now RWE aims to avoid similar demands from the European Commission.
