"RUBI REY Rum does do things a bit unconventionally, but we feel that tradition is meant to be challenged," said Aaron Burns, Senior Global Brand Manager at Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. "With the86collective, our mission is to challenge what stands for art in contemporary culture by introducing a progressive new generation of artists, establishing a new threshold of creativity with an edgy, experiential mix." The86collective aims to change the misconceptions that digital art substitutes technology for creativity. Instead, works featured in the86collective clearly promote technology as an enabler of brilliance. As technology is omnipresent in today's society, the creative opportunities that it produces begin to reflect reality more than traditional art. By embracing that fact, the digital realm can be truly appreciated by both the masses and art enthusiasts alike.
Working with art organizations in Denver, Chicago and Miami, the86collective will not only give the digital art movement a physical base for exhibits, but utilization of an expert panel comprised of art professionals and collectors. The organizations will curate and install the exhibitions featuring the works selected by each panel.
The Lab at Belmar, a new institution dedicated to contemporary art and thought, combining elements of an art museum, think tank and public forum will host the86collective in the Denver area from June 18th - July 20th.
m5, a leading cultural institution, will be the stage for the86collective in Chicago from June 27th - July 2nd. Believing that it is the spirit of art to illuminate and educate the hearts and minds of its audience, m5 seeks and supports the production of artworks that are pluralistic, socially engaged and alive.
Finally, the ArtCenter/South Florida is where the86collective will be featured in Miami from July 18th - July 26th. With a mission to advance the knowledge and practice of contemporary visual arts and culture in South Florida, ArtCenter exhibitions primarily focus on contemporary media, current aesthetic issues, contextual linkages, and community awareness.
In each market, exhibitions will be previewed during a private opening followed by public viewing. Prizes will be awarded to the top three artists and/or works.
the86collective will showcase the forefront of the digital art revolution. By encompassing and enhancing the distinctive qualities of painting, photographs and music with the use of computers and robotics, digital art is taking current artistic methods places no one would have thought possible.
