(repeating to clarify number of deaths)
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - New World Resources N.V. said it temporarily
suspended some mining operations after a third death this month.
The hard coal producer said it temporarily suspended mining at some areas at
the Paskov mine belonging to its OKD unit following an accident in which one
miner died.
In light of this death and the two fatalities that occurred at OKD's Darkov
mine on July 10, chief executive Klaus-Dieter Beck has ordered the suspension of
production at all OKD mines for one hour during all four shifts on July 18.
An investigative committee comprised of members of the Ostrava Mining
Authority, Paskov Mine management, the trade union and other OKD representatives
is now conducting an investigation into the accident, it added.
New World Resources said on July 11 two members of an equipment recovery
team at the Darkov mine were killed, prompting an investigation. Mining at
Darkov was not interrupted.
