SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - Shares of Research in Motion Ltd. fell
Friday following a media report of a delay in the launch of the company's new 3G
BlackBerry phone for AT&T.
The debut of the new phone, which will feature high-speed wireless, has been
pushed back to as late as August from June, Fortune reported on its Web site,
citing sources.
The reason for the delay of the smartphone's introduction isn't clear, but
people close to the companies said AT&T expressed concerns about call quality,
Fortune reported.
The new BlackBerry is apparently named Meteor, according to the report.
Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone in June.
U.S.-listed shares of RIM were down $4.45, or 3.6%, at $119.02. AT&T's stock
was down 23 cents at $38.42. Apple shares were down 58 cents at $168.34.
