RGB Networks (www.rgbnetworks.com)
and CASTIS (www.castis.com) are
teaming to deliver integrated video-on-demand (VOD) solutions that allow
cable operators to deliver up to 50 percent more on demand content.
Through the integration of RGB’s Dynamic
Bandwidth Manager (DBM) and CASTIS’ Castanets®
cable VOD system, operators will be able to deliver dramatically more
video-on-demand (VOD) programming without requiring more bandwidth or
impacting picture quality.
“We are very pleased to be working with
CASTIS, one of the leading VOD server vendors in the Asia Pacific
region, to deliver an interoperable VOD solution to our customers,”
said Nick Hutton, Vice President, Asia Pacific for RGB Networks. “The
combination of RGB’s Dynamic Bandwidth Manager
and CASTIS’ VOD platform is an ideal solution
for cable operators throughout the region, enabling them to deliver more
VOD programming without the expense of upgrading their network
infrastructure or adding new QAM modulators, and without affecting the
user experience.”
“As the popularity of VOD increases and the
demand for HD VOD continues to grow rapidly, operators require a
cost-effective way to deliver more on demand content within their
existing network infrastructure,” said
Seung-Hak Kim, CEO of CASTIS. “Our joint
solution with RGB will allow operators to easily deliver more
high-bandwidth services to their customers while avoiding costly
upgrades and preserving the ‘trick-play’
feature that VOD users have come to expect.”
The DBM is based on RGB’s unique Video
Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA), giving it
an unprecedented ability to lower VOD bandwidth usage by up to 50
percent through the simultaneous processing of up to 1,200 programs.
This dramatically lowers the cost-per-stream for operators to transrate
individual VOD programs, making wide scale use of the DBM exceptionally
cost-effective. Complementing its bandwidth optimizing capabilities, RGB’s
DBM is exceptionally easy to deploy as it processes VOD programs in
real-time, eliminating the need for complicated pre-processing of the
programs and any complex integration with VOD servers. Operators simply ‘plug’
the DBM into existing VOD deployments as it is compatible with all the
major components of an end-to-end VOD system, including VOD servers,
resource managers, quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulators, and
existing set-top boxes. The DBM preserves optimal picture quality and
ensures that subscribers experience no noticeable differences when using
VOD’s fast-forward, rewind and pause ‘trick-play’
features.
