ARMONK, N.Y., May 28, 2015
/PRNewswire/ -- IDC reported that IBM (NYSE: IBM) achieved

year-over-year in the first quarter of 2015 in $250K+ servers.

According to IDC, IBM achieved industry-leading 63.6 percent
revenue share in $250K+ servers in the quarter, with z Systems
growing 118% year-to-year. [2] IBM's leadership position
in the $250K+ server share is evidence of continued momentum for
the z Systems. This report builds on IBM's introduction of the z13
in January 2015, a game-changing
mainframe built for the digital economy. With the ability to handle
2.5 billion transactions a day, the z13 is built for the
skyrocketing growth in mobile transactions where consumers expect
to interact with businesses anywhere, anytime through smartphones
and mobile devices. The z13 is the first mainframe to process
transactions and perform advanced analytics simultaneously,
allowing for fraud detection on every transaction.

With the z Systems' marketplace acceptance, a new generation of
students is learning mainframe skills through the Master the
Mainframe contest. In its 10th year, more than 74,000
students have participated in the Master the Mainframe
program. In 2016, Master the Mainframe will host its second
World Championship.
"During the past 18 months, IBM's server strategy has undergone
a massive transformation as we deepen our investment in high value
servers," said Tom Rosamilia, senior
vice president for IBM Systems. "With the introduction of the z13
and the POWER8 processor, it is clear that we are offering clients
differentiated products to handle the demands that industry
disruptors like cloud, analytics, mobile, social and security put
on businesses everyday."
