Kuala Lumpur, May 20, 2008 - (ACN Newswire) - Homegrown IP telephony solutions company
QubeConnect Sdn Bhd signed an agreement valued at US$1 million with China Mobile Communications
Corp (China Mobile) to design and develop value-added mobile services for China Mobile
subscribers in the northern region.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will witness the exchange of contract
documents between the two parties, scheduled on May 21, 2008 at 3pm, in conjunction with the
World Congress on Information Technology 2008 from May 18 to 22, 2008. Representing China
Mobile is Mr Liu Yansong, head of international data centre and QubeConnect is represented by
Mr Sin Hock Kian, chief executive officer
Under the first phase of the agreement, the value added mobile services will be offered to 12
million China Mobile subscribers spread across four cities in the northeast - Changchun,
Harbin, Shenyang and Jilin - before it is extended to other parts of China.
Mobile weather forecast and eFax are the two new services built by QubeConnect that would be
rolled out to subscribers over the next six months. These services will be extended to the rest
of China Mobile subscribers in other provinces over the next two years.
According to QubeConnect Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Sin Hock Kian, the introduction of
innovative and inexpensive value added services is part of China Mobile's customer retention
program and is expected to boost revenue as proven during the nine-month pilot.
The Java based services are built above QubeConnect's innovative QubeTalk(TM) Service Provider
Solutions (SPS). The SPS underlying Unix-based software architecture provides carrier class
reliability, security and the capacity to scale from one to tens of thousands of users in a
cost effective manner.
"China Mobile's trust in our ability to deliver is both humbling and gratifying for a newcomer
like QubeConnect. We endeavor to meet their objective to deliver high quality communications at
lowest costs to increase China Mobile's competitive edge,"said Sin
China Mobile has 350 million mobile subscribers in China. Industry statistics indicate that
more than 800 million of China 1.3 billion population do not have mobile phones yet.
