MOSCOW (Thomson Financial) - Russian President Vladimir Putin today called
on the Iraqi authorities to support Russian investments in Iraq's oil sector,
notably in the Western Qurna oilfield in the south of the country and in
rebuilding the Kirkuk-Banias oil pipeline, the Kremlin said, cited by Interfax.
Putin said in a message to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki: "Our
companies are prepared to increase their contribution to the reconstruction and
modernization of Iraq's economic infrastructure, primarily in the energy and oil
and gas sectors, where we have accumulated vast experience and have good
reserves for the future".
Putin also reaffirmed Moscow's interest in developing mutually advantageous
ties with Iraq on all fronts, Interfax said.
