ProSanos SSEER Technology Powers New Registry
LA JOLLA, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- A new approach to the creation of
registries and clinical databases is being unveiled to researchers today. SSEER(TM) (Simultaneous Secure Electronic Entry and Reporting), from ProSanos(R)
Corporation of La Jolla CA, was used to develop a new registry of patients with
systemic fungal infections. The new registry is sponsored by Enzon
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and is being previewed to researchers from around the
world at the annual "Focus on Fungal Infections" conference in New Orleans March
24-26.
SSEER is a new web-based system from ProSanos for entering, querying, analyzing,
and reporting patient data in registries and clinical databases. In many
existing registries, researchers encounter problems that make it hard to analyze
data productively -- for instance when there are difficulties accessing the
data, and/or when wide-ranging analyses are hindered by the database design. SSEER was developed to overcome such problems.
The new Enzon registry, called CLEAR II (Collaborative Exchange of Antifungal
Research), will incorporate clinical information on thousands of patients from
multiple sites across North America over several years. The first patients are
expected to be enrolled this Spring. CLEAR II is a successor to Enzon's original
CLEAR registry, which accumulated clinical data on over 3,500 patients with
serious invasive fungal infections. CLEAR dealt with patients treated with
Enzon's product Abelcet(R); CLEAR II will also incorporate patients being
treated with other systemic antifungal agents.
ProSanos performed detailed analyses on the data in CLEAR, and was selected to
develop a successor when Enzon decided that a new registry would provide an
opportunity for a major upgrade in knowledge about the treatment of systemic
fungal infections. ProSanos has also developed a new website (
http://www.clearii.com/ ) that will provide researchers with online access to
the data, as well as tools to aid in their analyses and in patient care.
SSEER's use of web-based record entry and data analysis allows study
coordinators and researchers to access data and reports from single sites or all
participating sites in real time. Rigorous security protects both the data and
patient confidentiality. Custom reports are available based on user- selectable
categories, and researchers can use SSEER's analytical tools to extract
productive information quickly.
Clarke Atwell, Enzon's vice president of marketing and sales, said: "This
project represents a major commitment on our part to advancing the treatment of
life-threatening fungal infections. CLEAR II has great promise for
knowledge-sharing among researchers; the specialized expertise ProSanos provides
is an important factor in helping us extract productive knowledge from the
data." Jonathan Morris, MD, CEO of ProSanos, commented: "SSEER is a breakthrough. It
provides a flexible, results-oriented system that will benefit not only Enzon,
as sponsor of CLEAR II, and the participating health care providers and
investigators, but most importantly the thousands of patients afflicted with
serious systemic infections." ProSanos ( http://www.prosanos.com/ ) is headquartered in La Jolla CA, with
product development offices in Harrisburg, PA. ProSanos provides disease-
specific analytical products and services for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and
diagnostics companies, as well as for government, researchers, and healthcare
providers. Through ProSanos products and services, which include the creation
and operation of clinical databases and registries, data is transformed into
useful knowledge, and clients are presented with solutions to challenges that
occur throughout a product's life cycle. DATASOURCE: ProSanos Corporation CONTACT: John Cosgrove of Cosgrove Communications LLC, +1-412-422-8417, or Web site: http://www.prosanos.com/ http://www.clearii.com/
