LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Preston North End PLC, which earlier this week
named Alan Irvine as its new football club manager following the departure of
Paul Simpson last week, reported a reduction in operating loss before
amortisation for the year to end-June 2007 to 2.7 mln stg from 2.9 mln a year
earlier.
Turnover for the year was up 9 pct at 7.93 mln stg which was mainly due to
the Club's success in the FA Cup. However, the company said wages continued to
increase as the club again strengthened the squad of players. Total staff costs
rose by 7 pct to 7.71 mln stg from 7.19 mln with the vast majority of this
increase being the players' wage bill.
Despite not reaching the play-offs, the board said it was encouraged by the
achievements of the season -- most significantly reaching the top of the
Championship and also delivering a good performance in the FA Cup.
The group has also now signed the contract for the construction of the new
stand at Deepdale and the funding has been secured.
