Cell on Wheels & Cell on Light Truck Set to Handle Five-Times Normal Call Volume
LAUREL, Md., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has placed a Cell on Wheels (COW) and a Cell-on-Light Truck (COLT) at Pimlico to boost wireless coverage for this weekend's running of the 133rd Preakness Stakes.
During last year's Preakness, the Verizon Wireless network handled nearly one million calls -- five times the normal volume -- in and around Pimlico on race day. The network also carried more than 100,000 text and picture messages as well as emails from customers at the track as they stayed in touch with other race fans.
Verizon Wireless' mobile cell sites are on constant standby to provide additional wireless network capacity and coverage in emergencies and at highly attended scheduled events.
